This weekend is an exploration of the philosophy of endurance—and the practices that help us keep doing what we love for a long time.

Because whether you’re climbing mountains, riding bikes, skiing all winter, or simply navigating a body that’s accumulated some mileage, endurance isn’t just about pushing harder. It’s knowing when to work, when to soften, and how to recover well enough to keep going.

We’ll look at what has to teach us about the balance of effort and ease (sthira & sukha) and how to try hard without forcing or collapsing. We’ll practice staying present with sensation, without turning it into a story. And true endurance includes recovery, so we’ll treat restoration as part of the work.

Who Is The Long Game For?

For people who experience the outdoors as their church and the mat as their classroom.

  • You love to move—ski, ride, hike, run, paddle, climb, practice yoga, or whatever keeps you feeling alive.

  • You know how to work hard. Learning when to soften, recover, and adapt may be the harder practice.

  • Your body has some mileage on it—and you'd like to keep doing the things you love for a long time.

  • You're curious about the relationship between physical endurance and the way you meet discomfort everywhere else in your life.

  • You value strength and capability, but you're increasingly interested in longevity over performance.

  • You want to spend a weekend with people who understand that getting older doesn't mean getting done.

Don't call yourself an athlete? Doesn't matter. You don't need to prove anything here. You already know how to do hard things. This weekend is will leave you feeling restored, capable, and ready to keep doing the things you love.

It is through your body that you realize you are a spark of divinity.
— B.K.S. Iyengar

Why We Love B

B and I have been teaching, studying, and talking about bodies and yoga together for 14 years. She is wicked smart about how bodies move, but that's not actually what I love most about her teaching.

B has a rare ability to take ancient yoga philosophy—ideas that can easily feel abstract, esoteric, or removed from modern life—and make it immediately useful. In B's hands, a centuries-old teaching becomes something you can take onto the trail, into an injury, through a hard season, or simply into a Tuesday afternoon. She doesn't just teach yoga philosophy; she helps you recognize where it's already showing up in your life.

She teaches with intelligence, curiosity, irreverence, and a refreshing lack of preciousness. She'll ask you to pay attention without asking you to take yourself too seriously.

That's why I wanted her to teach The Long Game at Motive.

— Bree, Owner of Motive Yoga Co.

About B

B’s first real lesson in endurance didn’t come from racing or training hard—it came after she shredded her knee skiing as a teenager. Recovering from that injury taught her the quiet, stubborn kind of endurance: the kind that asks you to keep showing up when progress is slow and the body feels unfamiliar. Yoga became the practice that helped her slow down, rebuild trust in her body, and discover a different, deeper kind of strength.

As a teacher, B helps students develop a moving, breathing practice that builds freedom with strength, mobility, purpose, and a sense of humor. She lives in the Redwoods of Northern California with her family. As a new mother, her teaching is further shaped by another form of endurance—the physical, emotional, and spiritual stamina that motherhood continues to demand and refine.

B is a former D1 athlete and longtime yoga teacher whose studies have included biomechanics, injury prevention, Yoga for Athletes, and advanced training with Yoga Medicine.

Common Questions

How much yoga experience do I need, and how physically demanding is the weekend?
You don't need an advanced yoga practice or fancy poses. Expect thoughtful yoga practices, extended sitting and meditation, myofascial release, and sauna/cold exposure. Some practices will intentionally explore effort and discomfort, but curiosity and a willingness to pay attention matter much more than technical ability. You'll always be encouraged to work intelligently with the body you have.

What if I have injuries, joint replacements, or physical limitations?
Welcome to the long game. Bodies accumulate mileage. B's teaching emphasizes adaptation, awareness, and working with your body rather than overriding it. That said, you'll need to be able to participate safely in the practices you choose, and you're always welcome to modify or opt out.

Do I have to do the sauna or cold plunge?
No. Nothing about this weekend is about proving how tough you are. The sauna and cold experience is an opportunity to explore sensation, discomfort, and equanimity—not a test you have to pass. Participation is always your choice.

What does “extended sitting” mean?
We'll explore meditation as another form of endurance: what happens when the challenge isn't physical exertion, but staying present with boredom, restlessness, sensation, or a wandering mind. You'll be supported in finding a sustainable seat and working within your own capacity.

Is lodging included?
No. This is a non-residential retreat, and lodging is not included in the registration price. Local participants can simply head home at the end of each day. If you're traveling to Winthrop, you'll arrange your own accommodations. We can provide recommendations for nearby lodging.

Is dinner included Saturday night?
No. Saturday evening is intentionally left open. Head home, rest, explore Winthrop, or make dinner plans with your new retreat friends. We'll reconvene Sunday morning.

What should I bring?
Comfortable clothes for yoga and meditation, warm layers, a swimsuit and towel for sauna/cold, a water bottle, and anything you personally need to be comfortable sitting for longer periods. We'll send a complete packing list before the weekend.

What time does the retreat end?
We'll wrap up by approximately 1:00 pm Sunday, leaving plenty of time for out-of-town participants to travel home—or for locals to get outside and enjoy the rest of the day.

Can I come for just one day?
The Long Game is designed as a complete weekend immersion, so registration is for the full Saturday–Sunday experience.
